Confirm requirements with the responsible office before visiting a counter or sending payment.
An Arrest Is Not a Conviction
An arrest does not prove guilt. A charge may be declined, changed, dismissed, or resolved in the accused person's favor, and a booking entry does not state the final case result. New York records may later be corrected or sealed under CPL 160.50, 160.57, or 160.59. An old copy can therefore give an incomplete view of current status. Confirm the disposition with the court that handled the case, the Cortland County Sheriff's Records Division, or the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services when its subject-only record review is applicable.
A record is a starting point, not a verdict. Only its official custodian can confirm the current content and whether the material remains public.
